Changes to MFA @ SCU
Microsoft is retiring SMS text codes and phone call verification for multi-factor authentication (MFA). From 1 February 2027 these will no longer be an option and Microsoft is making passkeys the default MFA method.
If you currently use SMS or a phone call to verify:
From 1 September 2026, you will be prompted to set up a new method (passkeys by default) after you sign in. You can skip the prompt for now.
From 1 February 2027, SMS and phone call verification will be permanently disabled. If you have not registered a new method by then, you will be required to set one up before you can finish signing in
